Flash Fiction!

I’ve recently joined a small flash fiction writing circle called “Flash Fiction for Aspiring Authors.”  Each Tuesday, a photo is provided that should inspire a flash fiction piece of 125-150 words.  Here’s my first:

This week’s photo prompt is provided by, Louise, author of the blog, “The Storyteller’s Abode.” Thank you Louise!

Every Monday, Amanda watched from her window as the trendy crew gathered in the street below.

She wasn’t some fool to assemble each week and eat her lunch at that miserable little Chinese restaurant. It wasn’t even authentic, but they treated it like something freshly imported or made by hand. A clique that had been together since school, judiciously cutting any who didn’t support their social hegemony.

Amanda saw through their silly posturing and the pomp surrounding their little soiree. Chatting away at tables like they carried true importance. She was not so prisoner to their conformist ritual.

A knock at the door rattled her from her reverie. Her eyes lingered at the window a moment longer as she debated whether she should answer. She pulled herself away and opened the door to find the China Boat delivery man.

She wasn’t one of them. She ordered in.
